TOEFL PRACTICE TEST
READING COMPREHENSION
Read the following passage and choose the best answers to the questions.
Floods in Bali and Flores have killed six people and disrupted communities and travel. In Bali, torrential rain since Tuesday night triggered floods across four districts, killing two people, damaging buildings in Denpasar, and limiting access to the international airport. At least 85 residents were evacuated, and more than 200 rescuers have been deployed as parts of the island remain inundated.
On Flores Island, flash floods cut off road access and phone services in 18 villages. The disaster killed four people and left four others missing in Nagekeo district. Although water levels receded by Wednesday, the affected areas remained isolated and in need of assistance.
These disasters occurred during Indonesia’s annual monsoon season, which is worsening due to climate change. The season, typically from November to April, often brings floods and landslides. Shifting storm patterns are now causing heavier rainfall, stronger winds, and more severe flash floods. Earlier this year, similar disasters in Java killed dozens of people and left several missing.
